Holloway Ruby Margaret Ethel Sept. 27, 1957 – March 3, 2026 Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on March 3rd, 2026, surrounded by the love of her husband and son, after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents George Marsh and Alice Blundell, stepfather Ralph Blundell, brother Harvey Marsh, parents-in-law Job and Shirley Holloway, grandparents Adam and Maggie Marsh and James and Ethel Simmons; brothers-in-law Freeman Patey and Ricky Holloway, sister-in-law Esther Holloway. Left with cherished and loving memories are her husband of 48 years Garry Holloway; son Jeffrey Marsh (Melanie); grandsons Gabriel and Kye; godchildren Christopher O’Dell and Haley Rees; brothers Garfield Marsh (Doreen), Roy Marsh (Betty); sisters Sharline Lambert, Vera Patey, Maxine Watton (Levi), Sylvia Vardy (Howard), Ina Marsh, Rosalind Mews (Chris); brother-in-law Terry Holloway (Mondella); sister-in-law Dorothy Holloway (Harold), and a large circle of relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by so many who knew and loved her. Ruby was born in Hickman’s Harbour but spent most of her life in Whitbourne. When she wasn’t working at their family business, Holloway’s Funeral Home, Ruby spent countless hours crocheting baby caps and making baby quilts for the Janeway which she donated every year. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Carbonear General Hospital for their care, compassion, and comfort during her brief stay; her family doctor, Dr. Parsons; and the doctors and nursing staff at the Health Sciences Center and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center for their care over the past seven years. William Edward Reid (April 1, 1936 – February 26, 2026) Dad, your work on this earth is complete. With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of William Edward Reid, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on February 26, 2026, at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his soulmate, best friend and love of his life, Sarah Myrtle Reid. His parents, Sarah Thorne and James Edward Reid; his siblings, Harry Reid (Eileen), Doreen Branton (Clayton), Edna Thorne and Gary Thorne. Elwood Eugene Newhook (1964–2026)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elwood Eugene Newhook, who departed this life on January 17, 2026, at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s. Elwood was a loving husband, father, granddad, brother, and friend. He will be remembered as a proud, strong, and hard-working fisherman, and a family man with a kind heart. In 1982, Elwood met Margaret (Margie) Burke, now his wife of 36 years. Their relationship was a true example of unconditional, supportive, and selfless love. He always said that his proudest accomplishment was raising three beautiful and strong children with the love of his life. Elwood adored being a granddad to his two grandchildren with all his heart. Throughout his life, Elwood spent many hours driving to and from the rink to watch his daughter and her figure skating. He truly loved every minute of it. He was known as everyone’s “skating dad,” and he was always there to support and encourage anyone who needed it. He also loved listening to rock music and driving nice cars, hobbies that he shared with his sons. Elwood was known as a kind, dedicated husband and father with a brilliant sense of humor; traits which he instilled within each of his children. Elwood leaves to mourn; his wife Margaret Newhook (Burke); his children Tyler (Rebecca), Robert (Melanie), and Erica (Alison); and his grandchildren Oliver and Rose Newhook. Minnie Lillias Eva Thorne June 15, 1949 – January 9, 2026 Thornlea, Trinity Bay With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful and sweet Minnie Lillias Eva Thorne on January 9, 2026, at the age of 76. Minnie passed away surrounded by love, with her two special nieces, Margaret and Patricia Emma, faithfully by her side. Joan Daisy Masters November 19, 1925 – December 13, 2025 Joan Daisy Masters, a cherished mother, grand-mother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Mercy home on December 13, 2025 at the remarkable age of 100. Joan is predeceased by her husband, Samuel Masters, her grandson Darrell Collett and son-in-laws Fred Leaman and Norman Collett. She is survived by her four children, Wendy, Doreen (Roy), Beryl (Bruce) and Brian (Sherry); her ten grandchildren Norma, Chris (Louisa), Dennis (Cristina), Sheila, Steven (Lori), Michelle (Pierre), Kim (Jack), Jeremy (Amanda), Stephanie (Sheldon) and Heather (Travis); and her 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Joan was born in Kent, England on November 19, 1925. During World War II, Joan enlisted and was an active member of the British Land Army. It was during that time that Joan met and married Samuel, a member of the Newfoundland Regiment. As a British war bride she travelled the ocean in 1946 to begin a new life in Fairhaven, Newfoundland. It was here that Joan and Samuel created a home and life where they raised their family and became part of the community. Those who knew Joan will remember her gentle grace, her steadfast nature and the stories she told from a century well lived. Joan found great joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved tending to her flowers, taking pride in every bloom. She gave her time to helping others through volunteering. She loved to sing especially in choirs and cherished any opportunity to sing in church. November 25, 1956 – December 11, 2025 Chris, born in Whitbourne on November 25, 1956, passed peacefully at Carbonear General Hospital on December 11, 2025, surrounded by love. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Jane Barrett; her sisters, Holly, Sylvia, Provie and Daffodil; and her great-grandchild, Ian Clarke. Left with cherished memories are her devoted husband, Fred; her beloved children, Cathy (Mark), Samantha (Rob), Lindsay (Cole), and Eanie (Rich); her grandchildren, Ethan, Alex, Coady (Chantelle), and Dakota; and her great-grandchild, Myles. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters Lil and Barb; brothers John, Larry, Rick, and Paul; close friend and niece Allison, and many other relatives and friends whose lives she touched. Chris was a loving and devoted mother and wife, who took great pride in her children and grandchildren. Theophilus Sullivan Butt
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Theophilus Sullivan Butt, lovingly known as Ted or Teddy. Ted passed away peacefully at his home in Norman’s Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador—affectionately known as Teddy’s Beach—on December 8, 2025, at the age of 76. Ted was a hardworking and skilled man who spent many years working as a power lines technician (linesman). He also worked in logging and roofing. Known for his strength and efficiency, Ted could climb a tree quickly and safely and have it cut down faster than anyone many had ever seen. Ted had a deep love for the outdoors and for life itself. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he found great joy in playing his guitar and singing. Always ready for a good jig and a hearty laugh, Ted’s presence brought warmth and happiness to those around him. He also shared a special bond with his beloved cat, Spook. Ted leaves behind his five amazing children: Raymond, Laura, and Linda Butt from his first marriage to the late Eileen Walsh; and Adam and Eve Temple from his second partner, the late Rhoda Temple, with whom he will be laid to rest. He will be lovingly remembered by his eleven grandchildren: Alexander, Austin, Kaden, Zachary, Isaac, Remington, Bowie, Trinity, Brooke, Joshua, and Bella. Ted was one of fourteen siblings and is survived by his brothers and sisters: Gladys, Rowena, Patrick, Mildred, Charlotte, Beatrice, Guy, Elaine, Lucy, and Lorna. He was predeceased by his brother Maurice and sisters Mary and Enid. Ted was also predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Martha Butt.
