Passed suddenly away at his home in St Johns on December 2, 2025, Bernard Dougald Newhook (Big Bird) formerly of Norman’s Cove at the age of 73. Predeceased by his son, Christopher (2003), mother and father, Elizabeth (Bessie) and Hayward Newhook, brother Perry Sr (Mum) and sister-in-law, Cindy Newhook (Mercer). Leaving to mourn his loving wife, Denise of 43 years and son Matthew. Siblings: Charlotte (Merrill), Norma (Barry), Kay (Rick) and their families,  Father and  Mother -in-law  Adrian & Bernadette Power as well as sister-in-laws, Marcie (Rick), Paula (Martin), Darlene (Jamie), brother-in-laws, Barry (Deanne), Dale (Sarina) and their families. Bern was a bricklayer by trade with the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Crafterworkers, BAC, Local 1. Through his career he developed many friendships far and near. He dedicated his life to building, not just with his hands but with his heart. As a bricklayer he took great pride in his work. Leaving behind walls that still stand today after many years of enduring testament to his skill and dedication. Many thanks to Dr Vidysankar, Dr Jackman and the Palliative Care Team, for their kindness, support and home visits throughout his illness.  Thank you to Barrett’s and Holloway’s Funeral Homes for their kindness and compassion. Passed peacefully away on November 29, 2025, Fredrick Albert Gilbert  at the age of 86 from the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre. Predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years Sylvia (Gosse) his Parents William and Deliah Sisters Gladys (Jack), Dorothy (Graham), Margaret (Nathan), May (Eugene). Leaving to mourn his son Terry (Joan), daughter Elaine (Dean) and Grandson Joshua (Kayla) and Nathan. Funeral service will be held Friday December 5,2025 at 2:00 pm from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery. He would say I lived a good life. Along with his beloved Sylvia they built a wonderful life full of family and friends all of who he cherished. He was a good, honest, hard-working man who always put his family first. With a kind heart and a helping hand for any who needed it. He will be remembered by many as a man of few words but a lot of love for family, friends.   It is with heavy hearts that the family of Cindy Lee Newhook announce her peaceful passing on October 30, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on June 17, 1960, in Markland and raised in Whitbourne, Newfoundland. Cindy moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta, at the age of 21, where she built a lifetime of cherished memories surrounded by family and friends. Cindy dedicated her career to caring for others as a Medical Secretary, known for her compassion, kindness, and professionalism. Cindy’s unselfish nature was evident in every aspect of her life. Throughout her life, Cindy exemplified generosity and humility, always placing the needs of others ahead of her own. Outside of work, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures — she loved reading, country music, Christmas movies, and sports, (particularly golf and curling). She enjoyed playing bingo, and especially treasured celebrating holidays and special occasions with those she held dear. Her warmth, humor, and unwavering love made her an extraordinary mother, sister, daughter, and friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Cindy is predeceased by her beloved parents, Reg and Madonna Mercer; her devoted husband, Perry Newhook Sr.; her parents-in-law, Hayward and Elizabeth Newhook; and her dear brother, Neil Mercer. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stewart H Anderson (Stu) of Chance Cove, NL.  Passed peacefully away at Lions Manor Nursing Home in Placentia, NL on Saturday Oct 11th, 2025. Predeceased by his son Perry, parents James and Louise, brothers Roy (Bernice), Kevin (Fronie) and niece TrudyAnn. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Lynn of 41 years. Predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Nicholas Dobbin, her parents Mary and William Mercer, brother John. Parents in law Annie and Vincent Dobbin, sister and brother in law Bride and Ray Verge and brother in law Kevin Dobbin. Leaving to mourn her loving daughter Joan and favorite son in law Mike, special grandson Steven (Britney, to which she thought of as a granddaughter), sisters Goldie(Kevin)Mercer, Betty(Arch)Janes, and Flo(Ken) Edmonds. Sister in law Kathleen(Dave) Mercer, Angela Dobbin, George(Linda), Dave(Brenda), Gary(Renee), number of nephews, nieces and cousins. OCTOBER 10, 1953 – SEPTEMBER  21, 2025 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wade White of Long Cove. He passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Wade is pre-deceased by his mother and father Gladys and Richard, and his in-laws Frances and Harry Cooper. Born to a life filled with adventure and love, Wade was a Husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family. Wade leaves behind, with fond and loving memories, his wife, Norma of 49 years. His two sons; Bernell and Bryan, special daughter in law Christina and the light of his life, “Poppy’s pride and joys,” Harry, Jack and Lucy. His brother Elwood (Jean), and two sisters; Vera (Frank) Ennis and Sonya (Darryl) Piercey, nieces and nephews as well as his friends and extended family. Wade started his career in the pool industry in 1978 as a remarkably hardworking man whose dedication shaped every aspect of his life. In 1989, with little more than determination and a vision, he built his business, Clearwater Pools, from the ground up. Through years of tireless effort, and hard work, Wade poured his heart and soul into the company, growing it into something he was truly proud of. Along the way, he met countless friends and colleagues, many of whom became like family. Today, Clearwater Pools stands not only as a successful business, but as a legacy Wade leaves in the hands of his two sons. Outside of work, Wade found joy in the simple and meaningful things.   Aug 25th, 1964 – Sept 16th, 2025 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, father, grand-father, brother, uncle and friend to many, Craig David Pretty on September 16th, 2025, at the age of 61. Craig passed away peacefully at the Health Science Hospital in St. John’s, surrounded by his beloved family. He was predeceased by his father, Charles L. Pretty; his brother, Gary L. Pretty; and his infant niece, Charlee-Rae Pretty. Craig will be forever missed by his loving mother, Bertha Pretty; his cherished daughters Sara (Kenneth), Nadine (Alex), Samantha, and their mother, Sharon Newhook; his six precious grandchildren: Kayden, Thomas, Nicholas, Alexandra, Tanner, and Riley; sisters Sarah (Cobe) and Sherry (Chad); brothers Keith (Judy), Scott (Marie), and Ross (Monique); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Passed peacefully away at Carbonear Hospital on September 11, 2025, surrounded by a circle of love, Randy Ross Mercer of Markland, aged 70 years. Randy was a man of great talent and devotion. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Mae Mercer, brother Edward and infant sister Debbie, his parents in law Dorothy and William Baldwin, brothers in law Albert Baldwin, Phonse Didham and Larry Hoskins, sisters in law Verna Baldwin and Betty Didham and infant niece Krista. Randy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with devoted wife of 50 years, Yvonne, and the light of his life their daughter Kerri, son in law Stephen and “Pop Girl’s” Avery and Emma. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Doug (Ann), Terry (Bev), Keith, Vicki (Terry Marsh), Todd, Michelle (Tim Newhook).  Sisters in law Joyce and Dauphne; 18 nieces and nephews and a large extended family of great and great-great nieces and nephews. Randy is also fondly remembered by his in-laws Linda Hoskins, Bill (Donna), Brenda (Tony Moore), Don (Nancy), and Kelly (Dennis Lundrigan); as well as 9 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews on the Baldwin side. A proud and dedicated employee of Marine Atlantic, Randy spent his working life on the water.  But his heart was always in music.  Whether entertaining passengers during ferry crossings or travelling the island with various bands that he played in or just playing solo, Randy brought joy and connection through his music.  His voice, guitar, and storytelling were gifts he shared generously, and his music created lifelong memories for his family and many friends he met along the way. Penney, Reginald Paul, age 75 of Markland. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reginald Paul Penney on August 25th, 2025 at the Carbonear Regional Hospital from long standing health issues. Born on the 30th of June 1950, in St. John’s, Paul was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. Paul will be remembered and mourned by the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Mary as well as his two sons, Peter (Beverly) and Paul (Melanie). Paul leaves behind grandchildren Kerri (Catlin) Jack, Shannon (Stephen), Samantha, Noah, Skyler & Samantha Lundrigan and great-grandchildren Mackinley & Maverick Jack, Finley & Max O’Toole. Paul is survived by his brother Bob and sisters Debbie (Blaire) Mercer, and Karen Howell. Paul will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, siblings-in-law, neighbours and friends. It is with great sadness that we, the family of Norma Clara Winsor (Stuckless), announce her passing which occurred peacefully at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s, NL on August 14th, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Little Bay Islands, Notre Dame Bay, NL on July 17th, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Elsie Leah (Weir) and Norman Stuckless. Raised from a young age by her beloved late Aunt and Uncle, Mary(Mom) (Dwyer) and Edward (Neddy) Stuckless. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 60 years Jim Winsor of Whitbourne, NL, two children, son Keith Winsor (Janet) and daughter Kelly Martens (Jason) both of Grande Prairie AB and the light of her life; her four grandchildren Emily Winsor of Toronto ON, Hannah Martens, Blair Winsor and Seth Martens all of Grande Prairie, AB. Her brother, Dawson Stuckless of St. John’s, NL and many nieces and nephews. . She is predeceased by her parents, beloved Mom and Neddy, sister Netta Stuckless, and niece Shelley Stuckless. She studied education at Memorial University College and taught for several years afterwards in Corner Brook and Leading Tickles. She gave up teaching to dedicate her life to raising her children because family was everything to her. Mom spent many years working for the community by volunteering for the local Lions and Lioness Clubs; she was one of the first two female Lions members in the world. She also volunteered as a Girl Scouts of Canada leader for several years. Mom was dedicated to her faith and was active in the United Church of Canada for her entire life and was a long-standing member of the UCW.
