  • GOSSE, George  Karl. It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we, his family, announce the passing of a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, George Karl Gosse of Whitbourne, age 85.
Karl is predeceased by his parents Arthur and Mahala (nee Noseworthy), siblings; Edward (Bella), Harry (Dulcie), Gwen (Herb), Pearl (Aubrey), Jean (Ned), Mable, Robin, Frank, and Max, daughter Fay and daughter-in-law Jackie.
Leaving to mourn, his wife and life partner Gladys (Nee Clarke), his children Carl (Betty), Bella (Bill), Susan (Glen), Marie (Ernie), Mike (Linda) Calvin (Bev), Meloney (Ed). Siblings Sylvia (Fred), Phyllis (John), Rita, Whilemena, Eileen, and Gerald. 18 beloved Grandchildren and their spouses, 25 Great-grandchildren, plus a huge circle of extended family and friends.
Karl was an icon in the community where he was born, raised and for most of his life, worked.
He was known for his “never give up” attitude, his generosity, loving heart, stories (and he had many), and his hardworking nature! Not too many families went without heat in the winter if Karl Gosse had a stick of wood. His door was always open and the kettle on. He always knew the best fishing spots, and if he wasn’t in the woods he was “up da pond in da boat”; that was his happy place. Many a parties and card games were held at the house and it was well known that the man could party! He was a jack of all trades and no one wore that hat better. There wasn’t too many times we’ve heard him say “no, I cant”; when he lost his legs that personal mantra never changed. There was work to be done and well, he always found a way to get it done. He was known for his “colorful discussions”, which often lead to some heated tempers; and when the other party was about to explode in frustration he would look at one of us with a wink and a smile and say “I just wanted to get them goin!”
If a stranger happened to overhear how many kids called the man “pop or dad” they would have to laugh and say “he was one busy man”. That is how the majority of people who walked in the door addressed him; which speaks to his loving heart, welcoming nature and his ever increasing extended family!
Now its time to rest, your job is done. We will take it from here, you taught us well. Forgive us if we have to wipe a tear away, we’re not crying for you, we are crying for our loss. Rest easy… until we meet again. Cremation has taken place and entrusted to Holloway’s Funeral Home. Service will be on Monday 11 January from 2-6 pm. Please stay safe and abide by covid-19 restrictions.  No flowers by request. Donations may be may to the George Karl Gosse Memorial Fund.

To The Gosse Family, When I went back to work this morning I was sad to see that Karl had passed away shortly after arriving at the HSC. I thought I would get a chance to have a visit with him but it was not to be. My deepest sympathy to Gladys and his children and the extended family, all whom I consider to be friends. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this sad time but remember him for who he was. A hard working man with a great sense of humour. I have great memories of visiting his home with the Sacrament of Holy Communion many many times and how appreciative he and Gladys was. May he Rest In Peace and Rise in Glory.

Uncle Karl was a very special man. It was a joy to visit him and Aunt Glad. I loved listening to them kibit with one another. I was amazed at how he tackled things without backing down. He had a sense of humor which he often used to tease the young ones. I am so sad that Covid prevented us from visiting this past summer. My deepest sympathies, prayers and hugs go to his family and friends. May Uncle Karl Rest in Peace.

Such a kind man. If he wanted to do something out around the door, nothing was stopping him. Many days we would just sit out on the step and have a chat. It was definitely a great pleasure knowing him because he was just such a nice person.
