It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Edgar Cardwell. Born to the late Ernest and Rowena Cardwell on August 8th 1943, Ron passed away on June 12th, 2022 at the age of 78.

Ron was blessed with large and loving groups of family and friends both within Newfoundland and Ontario. He is predeceased by his brothers Bob, Stan and Ernie, and his sisters Marjorie, Viola and Ruth.

He leaves behind his loving and loyal partner of 18 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Cardwell with whom he happily spent the best years of his life. Ron will also be greatly missed by his children Dave Cardwell (Nicole) and Sheri Cardwell-Trozzo, and grandchildren Breanna, Kayla, Joshua, Samantha and Ryan.

He is survived by his treasured sister Joyce Mercer, who was able to be there with him in his final moments, and her partner Dave Sooley, who was a solid friend to Ron and always there to lend a hand over the years. Ron will be missed by his many nieces and nephews in Newfoundland and Ontario who have surrounded him with love across the years. A special thank you to Ernie, Lori, Beverly, Arlene, and spouses, who were always there and ready to offer support when needed.

Ron served in the Artillery sector of the Canadian Armed Forces from 1961-1968 and was a dedicated soldier. He proceeded to commit over 30 years of his life loyally to Loblaws as a Transportation Manager and continued to work post-retirement as a school bus driver in Renfrew, ON.

Ron will be remembered as a strong and proud man with a big heart, and will forever be missed but never forgotten by anyone whose lives he has touched.

    A soldier died today…
