With shattered hearts, the family of Lucas George Cyril Smith announce his passing on Saturday, January 21st, forever 28 years young, after a lengthy battle with mental illness.
He will be deeply missed by his parents Ricky & Sharon Smith of South Dildo, his brother and sister he never had: Stephen & Jessica Smith, his nephew Everett who was the light of his life and a large circle of friends- especially Tyhesia Buckle & Melva Flynn who were more like family, and his person Chloe Henderson. Also leaving behind many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins, including his cousin Ava Ke who meant the world to him.
All of his pets will dearly miss him but most of all, his best canine companion Mabel.
Lucas was a kind-hearted soul who loved everyone in his life so very deeply. All of the children in his life gravitated toward him and he had such an amazing bond with all of them- his face lit up whenever they were around. His love for animals and nature ran deep and beyond caring for his own “zoo” he loved to care for foster pets and spent countless hours volunteering to help animals in need as well.
Lucas was a courageous advocate for mental health issues and for LGBTQ+ rights. He spoke openly about his journey and his struggles; his strength was inspiring to many. His sudden loss has been devastating to many as he touched more souls than he could ever know.
When you hear a pop punk song, or Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s “Fishing in the dark” Think of him, and remember he would want you to smile.
Visitations will take place on Friday, January 27th, 10-12 am, 2-4 pm, and 7-9 pm at Holloway’s funeral home in Whitbourne.
Celebration of life will take place on Saturday, February 4th, from 2:00 – 6:00 at the Lion’s Center in Dildo.
