It is with great sadness that the family of Lucy Murphy announces her peaceful passing at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Placentia, on August 9, 2025. Prior to her move to Lion’s Manor, Lucy was a resident of Long Harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador. Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas Murphy, her parents Mary (Burke) and Michael Burke, and her parents-in-law Thomas and Cecilia Murphy. She was also predeceased by her siblings Margaret (Bill Hayes), Jack (Monica Burke), Kitty (Dave Power), Agnes (Kevin Foley), and Leo Burke. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Bride (John), Agnes (Robert), Thomas, Michael (Lyla), Wayne (Valerie), Theresa, Verna, Terry (Jennifer), and Lisa; her 20 cherished grandchildren; 28 adored great-grandchildren; and her brother Thomas Burke (Susan), along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Lucy will be remembered for her warm heart and her dedication to family, friends, and community. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing darts, knitting, and crocheting. She loved trips to Mount Pearl with her sister Margaret for a good game of bingo, and she was well known for her delicious homemade bread, always shared with love. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Lions Manor for their exceptional care and compassion. Visitation will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church, Long Harbour, on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 10:00–11:30 a.m. for family, and 11:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. for friends and the public. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., also at St. Francis Xavier Church. Cremation and burial will follow at a later date. May this wonderful and loving woman rest in God’s love and peace, forever. |
