Penney, Reginald Paul, age 75 of Markland. It is with heavy hearts
that we announce the passing of Reginald Paul Penney on August 25th,
2025 at the Carbonear Regional Hospital from long standing health
issues.
Born on the 30th of June 1950, in St. John’s, Paul was a dedicated
husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor.
Paul will be remembered and mourned by the love of his life, his wife
of 57 years, Mary as well as his two sons, Peter (Beverly) and Paul
(Melanie). Paul leaves behind grandchildren Kerri (Catlin) Jack,
Shannon (Stephen), Samantha, Noah, Skyler & Samantha Lundrigan and
great-grandchildren Mackinley & Maverick Jack, Finley & Max O’Toole.
Paul is survived by his brother Bob and sisters Debbie (Blaire)
Mercer, and Karen Howell. Paul will also be missed by many nieces,
nephews, siblings-in-law, neighbours and friends. Paul is pre-deceased
by his parents Reginald and Hilda Penney, parents-in-law Robert and
Carrie Vokey, and his special friend and trouting buddy, Alice Penney.
Paul met his best friend and soulmate, Mary at the age of 16.
Together, they built a home and raised their family in Markland. He
was a proud firefighter for many years with the City of St. John’s and
after retirement, Paul was a passionate volunteer in Markland and
Mount Carmel, helping to plan and host community events that were
enjoyed by many.
Paul loved to spend time in nature. He was an avid hunter and
fisherman and loved nothing more than to spend the day at a local
fishing hole or searching for a prized moose to fill the freezer and
share with friends and neighbours. Paul fiercely loved his family and
was always willing to take others under his wing as an extended family
member. Paul never hesitated to lend a helping hand; he was loved by
many for his kind heart and willingness to support others. He loved
the simple things in life, such as reading the St. John’s Telegram,
listening to Paddy Daly on VOCM, and spending time in the beautiful
garden his wife created and tended. Paul will be remembered by many
for his quick wit, sense of humor and his ability to make others
laugh.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his name to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation. A service will be held at a later date.
“May his bobber always sink with a catch, the moose remain plentiful,
his quick wit never be forgotten, and his stories live on in the
hearts of all who listened.”
