Randy Ross Mercer

Passed peacefully away at Carbonear Hospital on September 11, 2025, surrounded by a circle of love, Randy Ross Mercer of Markland, aged 70 years.

Randy was a man of great talent and devotion. He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Mae Mercer, brother Edward and infant sister Debbie, his parents in law Dorothy and William Baldwin, brothers in law Albert Baldwin, Phonse Didham and Larry Hoskins, sisters in law Verna Baldwin and Betty Didham and infant niece Krista.

Randy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with devoted wife of 50 years, Yvonne, and the light of his life their daughter Kerri, son in law Stephen and “Pop Girl’s” Avery and Emma.

He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Doug (Ann), Terry (Bev), Keith, Vicki (Terry Marsh), Todd, Michelle (Tim Newhook).  Sisters in law Joyce and Dauphne; 18 nieces and nephews and a large extended family of great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Randy is also fondly remembered by his in-laws Linda Hoskins, Bill (Donna), Brenda (Tony Moore), Don (Nancy), and Kelly (Dennis Lundrigan); as well as 9 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews on the Baldwin side.

A proud and dedicated employee of Marine Atlantic, Randy spent his working life on the water.  But his heart was always in music.  Whether entertaining passengers during ferry crossings or travelling the island with various bands that he played in or just playing solo, Randy brought joy and connection through his music.  His voice, guitar, and storytelling were gifts he shared generously, and his music created lifelong memories for his family and many friends he met along the way.

Visitation  at Holloway’s Funeral Home on  Friday, September 12  6:30 – 9:00 pm,  Saturday, September 13, 2025 , 1:00  to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm,  Sunday, September 14, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at the Trinity United Church, Blaketown  on Sunday, September 14 at 3:00 pm.  In  lieu of flowers donations made be made to the Markland United Church Cemetery. Fund

    Family.
    Randy sure was an awesome Shipmate & a great friend.
    We always had a great laugh while working!
    He loved to sing & play musical instruments!
    Always with a joke.
    I have something that I got from Randy years ago now.
    It’s a Traveling electric guitar, small but a lovely sound.
    Rest in peace my friend, sail away one more time & we’ll see you @ the next dock.

  9. Sending sincere condolences to Randy’s loved ones. I hold fond memories of Randy from my childhood when my mother Bev Costello often brought me aboard the ships during summer break up the Labrador coast and Nova Scotia. Randy took care of me aboard like his own. I often admired his love for his family especially Yvonne and Kerri. May you rest in peace. I hope you and mom can now get together and share a few stories of the marine atlantic days.
