Cindy Lee Newhook

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Cindy Lee Newhook announce her peaceful passing on October 30, 2025, at the age of 65.
Born on June 17, 1960, in Markland and raised in Whitbourne, Newfoundland. Cindy moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta, at the age of 21, where she built a lifetime of cherished memories surrounded by family and friends.
Cindy dedicated her career to caring for others as a Medical Secretary, known for her compassion, kindness, and professionalism. Cindy’s unselfish nature was evident in every aspect of her life. Throughout her life, Cindy exemplified generosity and humility, always placing the needs of others ahead of her own. Outside of work, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures — she loved reading, country music, Christmas movies, and sports, (particularly golf and curling). She enjoyed playing bingo, and especially treasured celebrating holidays and special occasions with those she held dear. Her warmth, humor, and unwavering love made her an extraordinary mother, sister, daughter, and friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Cindy is predeceased by her beloved parents, Reg and Madonna Mercer; her devoted husband, Perry Newhook Sr.; her parents-in-law, Hayward and Elizabeth Newhook; and her dear brother, Neil Mercer.
She leaves behind her loving son, Perry ( Nicole Toliver ) Newhook Jr., who was the light of her life; her sisters Dale (Dennis) George, Paula (Ken) Smith, Wanda (Gerard) Murphy, Trudy (Neil) Linehan, and Shirley (Doug) Mercer-Boettcher; her brother Trevor (Wanda Drover) Mercer; her treasured granddaughter Briar Newhook, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and lifelong friends. Cindy’s love and laughter will live on in their hearts forever.
Interment will take place at the Anglican Cemetery in Norman’s Cove at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, for immediate family.
Following the interment, a Celebration of Cindy’s Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Norman’s Cove Community Centre, where friends and loved ones are warmly invited to gather in remembrance and to honor the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

  8. I worked with Cindy back in 2009-2012 and she was such a lovely lady and sweetheart to work with. I am so deeply sorry to hear of her passing and my deepest condolences go to her family. She spoke so proudly of her son Perry, and I always enjoyed hearing of the stories from when he was young.

  10. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Cindy’s sudden passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to Perry Jr, her new baby granddaughter Briar and her close family and friends.

I worked with Cindy for 12 years when she worked at the clinic when she moved home from Alberta and she became a mama bear to myself and Allison, always ready to dispense advice and words of wisdom when we needed it.

She was compassionate, kind, thoughtful and her love for helping people shone through each and everyday at work. I’ll fondly remember her stories of her love for living in Alberta, her weekend trips to Vegas, her love for Hallmark Christmas movies (even though she always said she hated Christmas), her obsession with curling (especially when Brad Gushue played) and her love for her new car (princess Sophia).

Her face would light up with pride whenever she spoke of Perry Jr, she was so proud of the man he had become. She was tickled pink at becoming a grandmother and I would receive pictures and updates periodically. I am saddened that she will not get to see the wonderful life I am sure Briar will have.
