Theophilus Sullivan Butt

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Theophilus Sullivan Butt, lovingly known as Ted or Teddy.

Ted passed away peacefully at his home in Norman’s Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador—affectionately known as Teddy’s Beach—on December 8, 2025, at the age of 76.

Ted was a hardworking and skilled man who spent many years working as a power lines technician (linesman). He also worked in logging and roofing. Known for his strength and efficiency, Ted could climb a tree quickly and safely and have it cut down faster than anyone many had ever seen.

Ted had a deep love for the outdoors and for life itself. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he found great joy in playing his guitar and singing. Always ready for a good jig and a hearty laugh, Ted’s presence brought warmth and happiness to those around him. He also shared a special bond with his beloved cat, Spook.

Ted leaves behind his five amazing children: Raymond, Laura, and Linda Butt from his first marriage to the late Eileen Walsh; and Adam and Eve Temple from his second partner, the late Rhoda Temple, with whom he will be laid to rest.

He will be lovingly remembered by his eleven grandchildren: Alexander, Austin, Kaden, Zachary, Isaac, Remington, Bowie, Trinity, Brooke, Joshua, and Bella.

Ted was one of fourteen siblings and is survived by his brothers and sisters: Gladys, Rowena, Patrick, Mildred, Charlotte, Beatrice, Guy, Elaine, Lucy, and Lorna. He was predeceased by his brother Maurice and sisters Mary and Enid.

Ted was also predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Martha Butt.

He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and friends.

Visitation will take place at Holloway’s Funeral Parlor in Whitbourne, Newfoundland, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 16, 2025.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Holloway’s Funeral Home and to everyone who has offered love, kindness, and support during this difficult time.

Ted’s memory will live on in the stories shared, the music played, and the laughter he so freely gave.
