Yvonne Gilbert

On September 4th, 2026, our family said goodbye to our beloved mother,mother-in law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Yvonne Gilbert. She passed away at Carbonear General Hospital, surrounded by her family and friends. She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories, stories, and love that will remain with all of us who were fortunate enough to know her.

Yvonne was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Gilbert; her parents, Harold and Rebecca Peddle and her parents-in-law, William and Deliah Gilbert.

Leaving to mourn with broken hearts are her children, Derek (Connie), Lorraine Harnum (Keith), Eddy (Debbie), Karen Higdon (Sandy), and Jean (Christine); her cherished grandchildren, Mitchell (Brittany), Jeffrey (Danielle), Justin (Danielle), Kendra (Jon), Paul, Adrian (Rae-Lynn), Rebecca (Ben), Nicholas, and Travis; and her adored great-grandchildren, Tyrell, Anabella, Samantha, Joni, Luka, Maddie, Adeline, Molly, and Harper. She also leaves behind her sister in law, Isabel Johnson and her extended family, many nieces and nephews, a wide circle of friends, and four wonderful caregivers, Nicole, Carolyn, Inder and Lisa.

Yvonne was born and raised in the same garden in Whitbourne where she would later raise her family. As an only child, she was a quiet and gentle soul who found joy in the simple pleasures of home and family. She devoted her life to being a wife and mother, creating a warm and welcoming home for all who came through her door.

Her home was always immaculate and inviting, with something cooking on the stove, the kettle ready, and homemade buns to share. Family, friends, and visitors were always welcomed and encouraged to stay awhile. Her greatest gift was creating a place where everyone felt cared for and loved.

Like George, Yvonne cherished her time at the cabin in Spread Eagle, where she enjoyed many weekends surrounded by family and friends. The laughter, conversations, and simple moments shared there became treasured family memories.

Yvonne’s gentle spirit, quiet nature, and unwavering devotion to her family will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. She created not only a home, but a place where everyone belonged. For 64 years, she and George built a life together rooted in love, family, and home. Now reunited once again, their love story comes full circle, leaving behind a family forever shaped by the life they shared and the love they gave so freely. Her love, her home, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of her family always.

Resting at Holloway’s Funeral Home, Whitbourne. Visitation will take place on Monday, September 7th, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Whitbourne. Interment will follow at the Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
