Reginald Paul Penney

Penney, Reginald Paul, age 75 of Markland. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reginald Paul Penney on August 25th, 2025 at the Carbonear Regional Hospital from long standing health issues. Born on the 30th of June 1950, in St. John’s, Paul was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. Paul will be remembered and mourned by the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Mary as well as his two sons, Peter (Beverly) and Paul (Melanie). Paul leaves behind grandchildren Kerri (Catlin) Jack, Shannon (Stephen), Samantha, Noah, Skyler & Samantha Lundrigan and great-grandchildren Mackinley & Maverick Jack, Finley & Max O’Toole. Paul is survived by his brother Bob and sisters Debbie (Blaire) Mercer, and Karen Howell. Paul will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, siblings-in-law, neighbours and friends. Paul is pre-deceased by his parents Reginald and Hilda Penney, parents-in-law Robert and Carrie Vokey, and his special friend and trouting buddy, Alice Penney. Paul met his best friend and soulmate, Mary at the age of 16. Together, they built a home and raised their family in Markland. He was a proud firefighter for many years with the City of St. John’s and after retirement, Paul was a passionate volunteer in Markland and Mount Carmel, helping to plan and host community events that were enjoyed by many. Paul loved to spend time in nature. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved nothing more than to spend the day at a local fishing hole or searching for a prized moose to fill the freezer and share with friends and neighbours. Norma Clara Winsor

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Norma Clara Winsor (Stuckless), announce her passing which occurred peacefully at the Health Science Centre, St. John’s, NL on August 14th, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Little Bay Islands, Notre Dame Bay, NL on July 17th, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Elsie Leah (Weir) and Norman Stuckless. Raised from a young age by her beloved late Aunt and Uncle, Mary(Mom) (Dwyer) and Edward (Neddy) Stuckless. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 60 years Jim Winsor of Whitbourne, NL, two children, son Keith Winsor (Janet) and daughter Kelly Martens (Jason) both of Grande Prairie AB and the light of her life; her four grandchildren Emily Winsor of Toronto ON, Hannah Martens, Blair Winsor and Seth Martens all of Grande Prairie, AB. Her brother, Dawson Stuckless of St. John’s, NL and many nieces and nephews. . She is predeceased by her parents, beloved Mom and Neddy, sister Netta Stuckless, and niece Shelley Stuckless. She studied education at Memorial University College and taught for several years afterwards in Corner Brook and Leading Tickles. She gave up teaching to dedicate her life to raising her children because family was everything to her. Mom spent many years working for the community by volunteering for the local Lions and Lioness Clubs; she was one of the first two female Lions members in the world. She also volunteered as a Girl Scouts of Canada leader for several years. Mom was dedicated to her faith and was active in the United Church of Canada for her entire life and was a long-standing member of the UCW. Jeffrey Lee McCarthy

It is with deep sadness and love, we announce the passing of Jeffery Lee McCarthy  August 8, 2025, who left us at age 45, A cherished son and a bright spirit, Jeffery spent his life surround by the love and care of his devoted parents with whom he shared a deep and special bond. Jeffery brought love into the lives of those around him, He will be remember by most for his genuine smile, and laughter every time you saw him. He is survived by his parents Leo and Barb McCarthy, brother Dion and by extended family and friends, who will carry his memory in their hearts forever. Rest peacefully sweet Jeffery you were deeply loved and your light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew you. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Lucy Murphy (Burke)

  November 30, 1928 – August 9, 2025 It is with great sadness that the family of Lucy Murphy announces her peaceful passing at Lions Manor Nursing Home, Placentia, on August 9, 2025. Prior to her move to Lion’s Manor, Lucy was a resident of Long Harbour, Newfoundland and Labrador.  Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas Murphy, her parents Mary (Burke) and Michael Burke, and her parents-in-law Thomas and Cecilia Murphy. She was also predeceased by her siblings Margaret (Bill Hayes), Jack (Monica Burke), Kitty (Dave Power), Agnes (Kevin Foley), and Leo Burke. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Bride (John), Agnes (Robert), Thomas, Michael (Lyla), Wayne (Valerie), Theresa, Verna, Terry (Jennifer), and Lisa; her 20 cherished grandchildren; 28 adored great-grandchildren; and her brother Thomas Burke (Susan), along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Lucy will be remembered for her warm heart and her dedication to family, friends, and community. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing darts, knitting, and crocheting. She loved trips to Mount Pearl with her sister Margaret for a good game of bingo, and she was well known for her delicious homemade bread, always shared with love. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and residents of Lions Manor for their exceptional care and compassion. Visitation will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church, Long Harbour, on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 10:00–11:30 a.m. for family, and 11:30 a.m.–2:00 p.m. for friends and the public.  Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., also at St. Francis Xavier Church.  Cremation and burial will follow at a later date. May this wonderful and loving woman rest in God’s love and peace, forever. 

Keith Murray Harwood

July 8, 1946 – August 4, 2025 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith Murray Harwood at Carbonear General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Keith moved to Newfoundland in 2001, where he owned and operated Moorlands Ultramar, a place well known in the community. He had a love for sailing, golfing, watching movies and cheering on the beloved Toronto Maple Leafs (when they won). Keith also cherished the companionship of his little cat, Rosie, who rarely left his side. Keith leaves behind his devoted wife of 33 years, Rosalind, and his loving children: Gino, Jason (Janice), Ron (Jennifer), Tara, Kal (Kim), Adam (Stephanie), Kristi (Trevor) and Kendra (Teddy). He was also a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Ken Harwood; brothers Leo and Scott Harwood; mother and father-in-laws; Ella Harnum, Nelson Harnum and Malcolm Drover; and brother-in-law Wade Drover. Keith will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous spirit and was always willing to help anyone in need. Many special memories were made with friends Carl Knight, Terry Snow and Scott Barrett. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to his special sister-in-law Dackenic Drover for her love, help and support over the past year. As an avid lover of animals, Keith’s family kindly requests that donations be made to the SPCA in his memory, in lieu of flowers. Visitation will be held at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne on Monday, August 11, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A service to celebrate his life will take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Holloway’s Funeral Home, 33A Cabot Avenue, Whitbourne.  Cremation has taken place.
