Donald Francis Griffin   Sunrise  February 3,1969 Sunset   July 7,2026   Who walked through this world with a gentle step and a quiet heart. The calm in every storm. A quiet force of love and strength. A gentle and peaceful presence. Humble and respectful. Reserved and serene.   It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Donald Francis Griffin, of Chapel Arm, who peacefully passed away at home where he was raised by his loving parents, Sadie and Vincent Griffin, on July 7,2026.   Born to Sadie and Vincent on the 3rd of February,1969, Donnie was a man who truly understood the beauty of a quiet life. He didn’t need the noise or the spotlight to be content; instead, he found his greatest joy in solitude, peacefulness, and the steady comfort of those he loved.   Though he loved his quiet time, Donnie had a deeply generous heart. He was a man you could always count on, possessing a quiet willingness to help anyone in need. He didn’t offer his help for praise or recognition, but simply because it was who he was – a dependable, kind soul who showed his care through quiet actions rather than loud words.   In his younger days, Donnie brought an undeniable energy to the diamond. He was a gifted Fastpitch  Softball pitcher.  With a canon for an arm, he was known for his skill, focus and love for the game . In 1983, The Long Harbour Youth roster took home the gold medal becoming Softball Newfoundland Pee-Wee “B” Minor Male Fastpitch Champions, a title he was so very proud of.   As the years slowed down, he traded the excitement of the field for the tranquil rhythms of a simple life. Martha Cavell Russell (née Butt) 1928 – 2026 Passed away July 9, 2026 “You live on in the hearts you left behind.” Martha passed peacefully from this life on July 9, 2026, in her 98th year, surrounded by the love of her family. Born to the late Gideon and Gertrude Butt, Martha is reunited with her beloved husband, Cyril; her infant son, Cyril Rex; and many other cherished family members who have gone before her. Left to celebrate her remarkable life are her children: Doreen (Cyril), Helen, Dereck (Sandra), Lorne (Patty), Dale (Lloyd), Diane (Graham), Lola (Craig), and Fern (John). She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her love. Martha touched the lives of many through her generosity, kindness, and unwavering faith. She was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and grace, leading her family with God’s love. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. After family service interment to follow at Heatherton, United Church Cemetery, at a later date.

On July 6, 2026, our family chain was broken with the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, George Gilbert. Surrounded by his loving family, he passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with kidney disease and, most recently, cancer. George was predeceased by his parents, William and Deliah Gilbert; his parents-in-law, Harold and Rebecca Peddle; his sisters, Gladys Ash (Jack) Dorothy White (Graham), May Ivany (Eugene), and Margaret Barrett (Nathan); and his twin brother, Fred (Sylvia). Leaving to mourn with broken hearts are his devoted wife and best friend of 64 years, Yvonne (née Peddle);his sister, Isabel Johnson, his children, Derek (Connie), Lorraine Harnum (Keith), Eddy (Debbie), Karen Higdon (Sandy), and Jean (Christine); He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Mitchell (Brittany), Jeffrey (Danielle), Justin (Danielle), Kendra (Jon), Paul, Adrian (Rae-Lynn), Rebecca (Ben), Nicholas, and Travis; and his adored great-grandchildren, Tyrell, Anabella, Samantha, Joni, Luka, Maddie, Adeline, Molly, and Harper. As well, his extended family, many nieces and nephews, a wide circle of friends and three wonderful care takers; Nicole, Carolyn and Inder. George dedicated his life to the trade of carpentry, taking great pride in his work and earning a reputation for his exceptional craftsmanship and diverse skills. Through the years, he worked on countless projects, leaving behind a legacy that can be seen in the homes, buildings, and lives he touched. Outside of work, George found his greatest joy at his cabin in Spread Eagle, where he spent many weekends with his family and special friends. Whether he was beachcombing, fishing, or sharing stories, those moments created memories that will be treasured forever.
