William Edward Reid
(April 1, 1936 – February 26, 2026)
Dad, your work on this earth is complete.
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of William Edward Reid, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on February 26, 2026, at the age of 89.
He was predeceased by his soulmate, best friend and love of his life, Sarah Myrtle Reid. His parents, Sarah Thorne and James Edward Reid; his siblings, Harry Reid (Eileen), Doreen Branton (Clayton), Edna Thorne and Gary Thorne. His mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jack and Jean Best and brothers-in-law Charles Ridgeley and David Butler. Extended family members Richard, Charles, and Winston Thorne.
He is survived by his children; John (Josephine), Rita (Douglas Norman), Murdock (Ruth), Scott (Rubyann), Sheila (Keith Clarke), Kimberly (Darcy Smith) and Denise (Conrad Brown); his 15 cherished grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. His siblings, Dorothy Ridgeley, Pheobe (Eric Thorne), Garfield (Verly), and Reginald (Marjorie) Thorne. His in-laws, Clyde (Julie) Best, Mavis Butler, Edward (Rita) Best, Voila (Jerry) Dodd, Lewis (Sharon) Best, Don (Sandra) Best. Plus, many nieces, nephews and friends. Survived by extended family Louise Harris and Julie Locke.
Dad lived a life filled with compassion, resilience and unwavering dedication to his family. He was known for his generosity, kind spirit and longing for anything that would have him hunting outside, cutting wood, trouting or most of all in the fishing boat.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of St. Patrick’s Mercy Home for their exceptional care and support.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Faith United Church in Thornlea on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Service to follow at 2:00pm. Reception at the United Church Hall.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I spent a weekend with Denise one Thanksgiving and was welcomed with open arms. I can only imagine how hard this is. He sounds like a very well loved man. Thinking of you all.
