Danny R Mercer Nov 20, 1962 – May 4, 2026 Passed away suddenly at his home in Whitbourne. Predeceased by; mother & father, Dorothy and Shears. Siblings; George, Wendall, Gladys, Shelley, Shears Jr., Lorraine, Maggie, Jim and Bayden. Brothers in law; Dan, and Gerald. Nephews; Shane and Gerry. Danny leaves behind a family who loved him dearly, especially his niece and care giver Jocelyn. Leaving to mourn; siblings Joan, Barb, Ros (Frank) Johnny (Nora), Max (Betty) Sues, Dave (Gail), Glen (Susan), Darry, and Paul. Sister in laws Elaine and Monica. Large circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Special friends Calvin & Bill. Danny was a man of simple pleasures; give him a trip to the mountain and a bottle of Diet Pepsi and he was a happy man. He spent many years in the woods either working, hunting, or just farting around. In recent years, due to vision loss, an afternoon yarning in the shed was his favourite pastime. He’ll be missed by many; he was always there to lend a hand to any who needed it—a jack of all trades, but master of none. Cremation has taken place, burial to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Danny Mercer memorial fund. “His music has stopped, but his memories play on.”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Hazel Lottie Hobbs, who passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husband, Munden Hobbs; her parents, Melina (née March) and Harold Gosse; her brother, Graham Gosse; her brother-in-law, Isaac Kelland; and her sister-in-law, Emily Gosse. Leaving to mourn and cherish her memory are her children, Scott and Wendy; her four special grandchildren, Justin, Megan, Chelsie (Rahul), and Nathan; her sisters, Vida Kelland and Alma (Richard) Kelly; her brothers, Lloyd (Peggy) Gosse and Bill (Sylvia) Gosse; her brother-in-law, Howard Hobbs; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Hazel was very proud of her children, grandchildren, siblings, and loved ones. She enjoyed crafts, music, and knitting. She was a kind, creative, and determined woman who loved learning new things. In her early years, Hazel worked as a teacher in Western Bay and St. Jones Within. She then worked in the medical field at Markland Hospital and as a medical stenographer at the Health Sciences Centre for many years. Hazel’s family would like to thank all family and friends for their support over the past couple of months, as well as extend a special thank you to Michelle and the wonderful staff at the Agnes Pratt Home for their exceptional care and compassion. Hazel’s family and loved ones will miss her deeply. She touched many lives and will always remain in our hearts. Lily Hobbs January 26,1934-April 26,2026 It is with sadness we announce the passing of Lily Hobbs, of Whitbourne, at the age of 92 years. Lily is pre deceased by her parents, Thomas and Fanny Porter of Elliston, and sister, Mary Ward of Toronto. Left with a lifetime of loving memories are her husband of 64 years Howard, daughter Suzette, son-in-law Tracy Harris, and “grand-doodle” Sammy. She will also be lovingly remembered by her niece Susan Gilbert, and family of Pickering, Ontario; and special cousin “nephew” Tony Porter, and family of Elliston. Holloway Ruby Margaret Ethel Sept. 27, 1957 – March 3, 2026 Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on March 3rd, 2026, surrounded by the love of her husband and son, after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her parents George Marsh and Alice Blundell, stepfather Ralph Blundell, brother Harvey Marsh, parents-in-law Job and Shirley Holloway, grandparents Adam and Maggie Marsh and James and Ethel Simmons; brothers-in-law Freeman Patey and Ricky Holloway, sister-in-law Esther Holloway. Left with cherished and loving memories are her husband of 48 years Garry Holloway; son Jeffrey Marsh (Melanie); grandsons Gabriel and Kye; godchildren Christopher O’Dell and Haley Rees; brothers Garfield Marsh (Doreen), Roy Marsh (Betty); sisters Sharline Lambert, Vera Patey, Maxine Watton (Levi), Sylvia Vardy (Howard), Ina Marsh, Rosalind Mews (Chris); brother-in-law Terry Holloway (Mondella); sister-in-law Dorothy Holloway (Harold), and a large circle of relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by so many who knew and loved her. Ruby was born in Hickman’s Harbour but spent most of her life in Whitbourne. William Edward Reid (April 1, 1936 – February 26, 2026) Dad, your work on this earth is complete. With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of William Edward Reid, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on February 26, 2026, at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his soulmate, best friend and love of his life, Sarah Myrtle Reid. Elwood Eugene Newhook (1964–2026)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elwood Eugene Newhook, who departed this life on January 17, 2026, at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s. Elwood was a loving husband, father, granddad, brother, and friend. He will be remembered as a proud, strong, and hard-working fisherman, and a family man with a kind heart. In 1982, Elwood met Margaret (Margie) Burke, now his wife of 36 years. Their relationship was a true example of unconditional, supportive, and selfless love. He always said that his proudest accomplishment was raising three beautiful and strong children with the love of his life. Elwood adored being a granddad to his two grandchildren with all his heart. Throughout his life, Elwood spent many hours driving to and from the rink to watch his daughter and her figure skating. He truly loved every minute of it. He was known as everyone’s “skating dad,” and he was always there to support and encourage anyone who needed it. He also loved listening to rock music and driving nice cars, hobbies that he shared with his sons. Elwood was known as a kind, dedicated husband and father with a brilliant sense of humor; traits which he instilled within each of his children. Elwood leaves to mourn; his wife Margaret Newhook (Burke); his children Tyler (Rebecca), Robert (Melanie), and Erica (Alison); and his grandchildren Oliver and Rose Newhook.
