Joan taught me at Roncalli back in the early 1980's. She was my homeroom Grade 7 teacher and left a remarkable impression on me. Thank you Joan for teaching me to stand tall in life. You enriched my experience forever, rest in peace.

I am so shocked to hear about an old friend who I went to school with from Grade 1 to Grade 11. We did our first communion together, got confirmed together and went to school and graduated together. I have not seen Joan in years, but I always wondered which path she had taken after finishing school. I can tell by the many memorials that she had a great career in teaching where she influenced and inspired many young people. I was fortunate to have spent time with Joan and had gotten to know her well when we shared an apartment in St. John's during university in the fall of 1976. Her intelligence, sensitivity and sense of humour endeared her to all, but above everything it was Joan's quiet manner and gentle spirit that stand out in my mind.
