  • Mary Matilda Crann, better known to everyone as Tilda, age 85, passed away peacefully at Carbonear General Hospital on Monday, January 7th surrounded by her family. Matilda was born in Perry’s Cove, NL to George and Maggie King, and moved to Fair Haven to pursue her teaching career, where she met the love of her life, Albert Crann. And it was Fair Haven where the two of them started their family and shared their lives together. Tilda who came from a large family, with nine siblings, had only one child, Margaret. But just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, so did Tilda’s family. Through her daughter Margaret, Tilda was blessed with four Grandchildren, seven Great Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Grandchild. Family was the most important thing in the world to her, and the love they all had for her was beyond compare.

Tilda is predeceased by her husband Albert, Son-in-law Bob, Great Grandson Duane Scott, parents George & Maggie, Brothers Freeman, George, Ralph, Vic and Melvin. Sisters Marjorie, Gladys, & Cynthia (Al). Brother-in-laws Jack (Marjorie), Ira (Effie), Ron (Francis), & George. Sister-in-laws Mildred (Bill) and Julie (Stan)

Leaving to mourn is her daughter Margaret (Dave), Grandchildren Scott (Bonnie), Tammy (Duane), Kenny (Andrea), & Donny (Jenna). Great Grandchildren, Kris (Jess), Zack (Brooke), Dylan, Kassidy, Destiny, Brooke & Maggie. Great Great Grandson, James. Sister, Gloria. Sister-in-laws Winnie, Liz (Bob), Ursula, Barb, Patsy, & Ruby. Brother-in-law, Guy. As well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family would like to send a special thank-you to Dr. Larson and the nurses on the 7th floor of Carbonear Hospital who helped care for Tilda in her final days. Your kindness will not soon be forgotten.

The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, January 11 at St. Paul’s by the Sea United Church in Fair Haven, NL. Any family and friends wishing to pay your respect are welcome to come Thursday, January 10 from 10 AM – 12 PM, 2 – 4 PM, and 7-9 PM.

So sorry to hear of Tilda’s passing. She and my mother Rowena were first cousins and very close growing up. Mom thought a lot over Tilda and as a result, I will always have a special place in my heart for her even though we only met once. My deepest condolences to the entire family.
