• Anita Theresa Murphy ( nee King )

    February 19, 2023
  • Passed peacefully away on February 18, 2023, at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, surrounded by her loving husband of 72 years, Anthony, and their 9 children: Anita Theresa Murphy (nee King). She was 95 years old.

Born on April 7, 1927, in Long Harbour, Anita was a loving mother to Trudy (Clyde Brown), Sharleen (Gerard Butler), Anthony, Nicholas (Julie), Craig (Clare), Karen (Christian Menard), James, Scott (Kim) and John (Dahlia). She adored her 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by her granddaughter Lindsay, parents, James and Mary King, brothers Anthony and John and sisters Bride, Agatha, Catherine, Elizabeth, Gertrude, Mary, and Ann.

Anita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who planted the seeds of her love into all she met. She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, humor, and her kind and comforting approach to others. She loved to read, knit, and garden. She was our historian with a wonderful memory of her family’s history who remembered and celebrated all our birthdays and anniversaries with cards and phone calls. She was a bright light in our lives and will be dearly missed.

Special thanks to the staff at Oram’s  Birchview Manor where she spent her final years and to the staff who provided care at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre.

The funeral will be held in Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Long Harbour on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 1pm. Visitation will take place at the church on Monday, February 20, from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9pm. Interment to follow in Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery.

No flowers by request. Donations can be made to the Diabetes Canada (www.diabetes.ca) or a charity of your choice.
