• Adelaide Petipas

    May 3, 2023
  • Passed peacefully away on May 2, 2023 at the Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear.

Born in Hopeall, Newfoundland, and after marrying Peter J. Petipas in 1959 spent the remainder of her time in Whitbourne until moving to Carbonear in 2019.

Adelaide and Peter owned and operated many businesses in Whitbourne over the years until their retirement, when they enjoyed travelling and entertaining friends and family.

Predeceased by her son Peter, parents Walter and Merab Cumby, brother Charlie (Stella), and sister Debbie (Kevin).

Leaving to mourn her husband Peter, daughter Sharon, Sharon Dean, brothers William (Betty), Cecil (Pam), Clyde (Ivy), sister Marion (Lou), and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to the all the staff at Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion in Carbonear, and most of all to our special angels on 4 South for their kindness and compassion shown to Adelaide and Pete. It means more to us than you’ll ever know. Thanks to the staff at Monty’s Place in Whitbourne, for their years of caring for Mom, and special thanks to dear family friend, Gladys Cooper, for the Eulogy.

Visitation will take place on Thursday May 4 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne. Funeral will take place at the Alphonsus Catholic Church in Whitbourne on Friday May 5, at 1:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Trinity Conception Placentia Health Foundation – Pte. Josiah Squibb Memorial Pavilion, 86 Highroad South, Carbonear, NL, Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador, would be appreciated.

Mom is now free from the Alzheimer’s disease that took her away from us far too soon, and is finally reunited with her loving son, Peter, and the rest of the gang.

The family politely requests that masks be worn.

    Always be kind to others.

So sad to hear of Adelaide’s passing but we can take some relief that she is no longer fighting that awful disease. I have known her since our family moved to WhItbourne in 1966 and she had always been the “lady” she was. Adelaide rest in peace. Pete and Sharron, you are in our prayers.

Dear Pete, Sharon and family: My condolences to you. Adelaide, or as I referred to her growing up, Mrs. Petipas , was a big part of my younger years in Whitbourne. She was fun and certainly quite a talent when it came to running a business. She lived a full life and is now most certainly with her boy, Peter who thought the world of her, his father and sister. God Bless.

Mother of my dear friend, dearest friend to my mother... playing dinkies, mini bikes, Delta 88's, trouting, family vacations, free meals at the restaurant, driving Mrs Murphy bonkers, running around the house making a mess, discovering rock n roll listening to all Sharon's 8 tracks, my taking the confirmation name "Peter".. and always getting a loving hug no matter what. I have not forgotten... Heaven awaits... God Bless and thank you... I will always have the memories. Sincerest Condolences
