Joan has been a huge part of my life as long as I can remember, back to the days when she was taller than me and would stretch her arms up over her head holding a toy that I was trying to get from her. Lol. She loved to tell that story. We where just 23 months apart in age and I always looked up to Joanie as a big sister growing up. We spent every Sunday visiting Joan and her family in Norman's Cove or vice versa. She would often join us on camping trips in the summer to Terra Nova Park and other places. Later we attended university together and I would see her around campus at MUN. Joan loved music and would often enjoy singing with my sister, Shirley, often with my father playing piano or guitar. In recent years she would sometimes show up at our shows when I was playing guitar at local coffee houses. We also played at Joan and Joe's wedding and what a beautiful wedding it was! Everything was so nicely decorated and Joe and Joe where a handsome couple. Our boys, Matthew and Lucas, where honored to be part of the wedding party along with their daughters. Tina and I where honoured to be invited guest at Joan's retirement party. Yes we where always close my dear cousin and I will cherish all the memories. You will certainly be missed but never forgotten.

Joe and Family. I’m terribly saddened over the untimely loss of a really wonderful person as well as a very valued friend! I’ve known Joan as a both a colleague as well as a fellow administrator and any description less than elegant, classy, caring and principled would be genuine understatements! May you find comfort and peace in this time of profound loss and sorrow with the realization that - as autumn’s vibrant energies gracefully gives way to winter, only to return again in the spring, so too has Joan’s elegant life given way, only to unquestionably return again in the ageless spring time of your tender heartfelt memories and a genuine family-centered love. Sincerest Sympathies 💔 - Roy

Our beautiful friend, gone way too soon. Joan taught all three of my children from 1989 onward. She was my youngest daughter’s principal and Morgan also stood as Jr. Bridesmaid for her wedding . She was a dear friend to our family. Joan also helped make up a wonderful group of five friends , a group of very different individuals who loved every moment spent together at Irving, Monty’s our living rooms or wherever we could find a convenient place to gather to share our coffee, stories , and a whole lot of laughter! We are all so very saddened to hear of Joan’s passing. You will be forever missed 💔 Liz and Hedley LeDres

We have been privileged to know Joan over the past few years. We last spoke to her on October 7th, the last night in Orford Quebec. She was a joy to be with. She loved to share her stories about when she taught children and sang in choirs. We had diner with her and Ruth and shared our stories and laughed for a while. The wonderful handmade cards that she created were amazing. We have quite a few that will remind us of her every time we look at one. Our deepest condolences to you, Joe. You were very blessed to have such a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Joan let her light shine brightly everywhere she went.

Sending heartfelt condolences to David and your family and to Joe and your family. I’m sorry that I am not home to join Joan’s family, friends and former colleagues in celebrating her life and teaching career. From our first years of teaching together at Norman’s Cove Elementary, she impressed me with her fund of teaching ideas and patience, as well as her easygoing attitude. My most enduring memory, though, will always be that she had high-heeled shoes to match each of her many outfits. Take care.
