Robert Clarke: May 17,1932 – August 6,2026   It is with heavy heart that we, the family of Robert James Clarke (Bob), announce his passing at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by his wife Agnes (nee Smith), son Robert, daughter Karen Audrey Linehan, son-in-laws John Hepditch and Warrick Hoskins. Also his parents Harry and Martha, six siblings Mary, Audrey, Ruby, Bessie, Violet, and Selby, as well as his special friend Bill Peddle. Leaving to mourn his brother Silas (Jean), daughters Debbie (Garry), Valerie, Cindy, Melanie, and sons Terry (Nancy) and Steve (Erika), daughter- in-law Lori, son- in-law Scott Linehan, as well as eighteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Bob was a family man who was seldom seen without a pick, hammer, or trouting rod. He always had a joke or story to tell. Wherever Bob was laughter followed. A hardworking man, life well lived. Cremation has taken place, visitations will take place at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne on Saturday, August 8th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm and Sunday, August 9th from 2:00pm – 5:00pm. Joseph Attwood Newhook passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at the Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday, July 26, 2026.  Joseph (affectionately known as Joey or Joe) was proudly in his 99th year, born in Norman’s Cove on February 22, 1928 to his late parents Joseph and Patience (nee Thorne) Newhook. Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Mildred Jane Newhook (nee Parrott) and the loving father of Geraldine Gillingham, Sandra (Glenn) Mitchell, Velma (John) Coombs, Wilfred (Pheobe) Newhook, Lorne Newhook, and Dennis (Beverly) Newhook.  He is also lovingly remembered by his 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Hazel Newhook, extended family and friends.  Joseph is predeceased by his son Kevin, two grand-daughters Kimberley and Mary, brothers Samuel (Sally), Eric (Mary), Absalom (Ruby), Robert, Leslie (Verna), sisters Selena (Harold), Elizabeth (Ken), Sarah (Jack). Joseph was a hard-working family man and will be fondly remembered for his humour and fun-loving personality.  He was constantly joking around and making everyone laugh, especially his beloved wife.  Later in life, Joseph enjoyed being outside labouring in the garden, cutting up and storing his wood and working on other projects with joy… and a little bragging about what he could do “at his age”.  His most recent claim to fame was being the oldest resident of Norman’s Cove, which he also loved to brag about. Joseph was a pillar of the Church of the Good Shepherd, assisting with its construction, ringing the bell, “belting out” hymns and lending a helping hand whenever he could over the years.   Donald Francis Griffin   Sunrise  February 3,1969 Sunset   July 7,2026   Who walked through this world with a gentle step and a quiet heart. The calm in every storm. A quiet force of love and strength. A gentle and peaceful presence. Humble and respectful. Reserved and serene.   It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Donald Francis Griffin, of Chapel Arm, who peacefully passed away at home where he was raised by his loving parents, Sadie and Vincent Griffin, on July 7,2026.   Born to Sadie and Vincent on the 3rd of February,1969, Donnie was a man who truly understood the beauty of a quiet life. He didn’t need the noise or the spotlight to be content; instead, he found his greatest joy in solitude, peacefulness, and the steady comfort of those he loved.   Though he loved his quiet time, Donnie had a deeply generous heart. He was a man you could always count on, possessing a quiet willingness to help anyone in need. He didn’t offer his help for praise or recognition, but simply because it was who he was – a dependable, kind soul who showed his care through quiet actions rather than loud words.   In his younger days, Donnie brought an undeniable energy to the diamond. He was a gifted Fastpitch  Softball pitcher.  With a canon for an arm, he was known for his skill, focus and love for the game . Martha Cavell Russell (née Butt) 1928 – 2026 Passed away July 9, 2026 “You live on in the hearts you left behind.” Martha passed peacefully from this life on July 9, 2026, in her 98th year, surrounded by the love of her family. Born to the late Gideon and Gertrude Butt, Martha is reunited with her beloved husband, Cyril; her infant son, Cyril Rex; and many other cherished family members who have gone before her. Left to celebrate her remarkable life are her children: Doreen (Cyril), Helen, Dereck (Sandra), Lorne (Patty), Dale (Lloyd), Diane (Graham), Lola (Craig), and Fern (John). She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her love. Martha touched the lives of many through her generosity, kindness, and unwavering faith. She was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and grace, leading her family with God’s love. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. After family service interment to follow at Heatherton, United Church Cemetery, at a later date.

On July 6, 2026, our family chain was broken with the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, George Gilbert. Surrounded by his loving family, he passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with kidney disease and, most recently, cancer. George was predeceased by his parents, William and Deliah Gilbert; his parents-in-law, Harold and Rebecca Peddle; his sisters, Gladys Ash (Jack) Dorothy White (Graham), May Ivany (Eugene), and Margaret Barrett (Nathan); and his twin brother, Fred (Sylvia). Leaving to mourn with broken hearts are his devoted wife and best friend of 64 years, Yvonne (née Peddle);his sister, Isabel Johnson, his children, Derek (Connie), Lorraine Harnum (Keith), Eddy (Debbie), Karen Higdon (Sandy), and Jean (Christine); He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Mitchell (Brittany), Jeffrey (Danielle), Justin (Danielle), Kendra (Jon), Paul, Adrian (Rae-Lynn), Rebecca (Ben), Nicholas, and Travis; and his adored great-grandchildren, Tyrell, Anabella, Samantha, Joni, Luka, Maddie, Adeline, Molly, and Harper. As well, his extended family, many nieces and nephews, a wide circle of friends and three wonderful care takers; Nicole, Carolyn and Inder. George dedicated his life to the trade of carpentry, taking great pride in his work and earning a reputation for his exceptional craftsmanship and diverse skills. Through the years, he worked on countless projects, leaving behind a legacy that can be seen in the homes, buildings, and lives he touched. Outside of work, George found his greatest joy at his cabin in Spread Eagle, where he spent many weekends with his family and special friends. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Winston Harold Mercer (June 23/1941 to June 24/2026). Predeceased by father Harold , mother Susie and son David, brother George and sister Leta Williams, brother in law Gower Williams. Leaves to mourn his wife Vera, daughter Sandra Perry (Andy), son Ron (Tina) and his beloved granddaughter Suelynn Perry. He also leaves to mourn brothers Fred (Bernadette), Joe (Pam) and sisters Lillian and Margaret Cumby (Rick), and sister in law Margaret Mercer (wife of brother George), as well as a wide family of cousins,  nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. Winston was an active member in the community, through his service to his church and his work with the Lions Club. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed being in the woods, working on old cars, and above all spending time with his granddaughter SueLynn. She was the light of his life . A special thanks from the family goes out to Garry Philips. Garry and dad met for coffee most mornings,  talked about old cars and world affairs. They knocked around like two retired buddies should, telling stories and having great laughs. Garry’s friendship meant a great deal to Winston and he was very thankful for his friendship with Garry and his wife Debbie. SMITH, Raymond November 9, 1933 – June 17, 2026 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Raymond Smith, aged 92 years, of Long Cove, passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, with his family by his side. Predeceased by his wife, Sarah; parents, Isabella (Temple) and Walter; parents-in-law, Myrtle and Elijah Smith; brother-in-law, Charles Peddle; sisters-in-law, Eileen (Don) Stuckless and Ruby Smith; and son, Derek. Leaving to mourn are his children: Vernon, Karen (Dwayne), Sherry (Francis), Gloria (Scott), and Tammy (Ian); grandchildren: Trina (Nathan), Crystal (Bob), Debbie (John), Heidi, Natasha (Jared), Justin, Jonathan (Jessica), Alyssa (Pierre), Amanda (Sean), and Kayla (Cody); great-grandchildren: Gavin, Xander, Jamie, Alexis, Logan, Zoey, Tyler, McKenna, Sadie, Levi, Brynley, and Dawson; sister-in-law, Marcie Peddle; and brother-in-law, Harrison (Fronie) Smith, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Raymond was a devoted family man whose greatest joy was spending time with those he loved. He was happiest surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and took great pride in each of them. An avid outdoorsman, Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing and cherished the time spent on the land and water. His quiet strength, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered always and deeply missed by all who knew him. Resting at Good Shepherd Anglican Church, Norman’s Cove. A memorial for David Selby Mercer ( Sep 24/1969 to Jan 15/2026) will be held at Holloway’s Funeral Home in Whitbourne on Thursday , May 28/2026. We will remember the life of David, son, brother, uncle and friend who was taken from us too soon. David leaves to mourn his father and mother, Winston and Vera, his sister Sandra Perry (Andy), his niece Sue Lynn and his brother Ron (Tina). Also left to mourn are uncles Fred Mercer (Bernadette) , Joe Mercer (Pam), Lillian Mercer , Margaret Cumby (Rick) , Aunt Helen Luffman (wife of Selby Luffman ) and Aunt Margaret Mercer (Wife of George Mercer) . David has a large extended family of cousins and friends who mourn his passing ; many who shared adventures with David throughout a life that he lived with vigor . Visitation is May 28/2026 at Holloway’s Funeral in Whitbourne 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. The funeral service is Friday May 29 at 2 pm at Holloway’s Funeral Home. Committal will follow at the Anglican Cemetery in Blaketown.

Annie Marie Gosse Passed peacefully away at St. Pat’s Mercy Home surrounded by family on Wednesday May 13th, Annie Gosse at the age of 79. Predeceased by parents George and Sally Gosse and brother Bob Gosse, who we know were waiting to welcome her home to Heaven with open arms. Leaving to mourn brothers Don(Dawn), Bruce(Dora/Porky) and Sister-in -law Marg (Dave), Nephews and nieces Scott(Bonnie), Tammy(Duane), Kenny(Andrea), Donny(Jenna), Sarah(Brett), Amy, Laura(Alex) and Payton as well as a long list of Great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Special mention to our Sister-in law Marg, who was always there for Annie when we couldn’t be. As well as cousins Helen and Atwood Smith and Marie Smith who were always a constant support and we appreciate you all more than you’ll ever know. We would also like to express our Thanks to the 2nd floor nursing staff at St. Pats Mercy Hospital who took care of her every need over these past years and we can’t tell you how much comfort that has brought to us all.
