It is with profound sadness and shattered hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and sister, Edith Upshall of Little Hr. East. Edith passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Health Sciences Center in St. John’s on May 20th, 2025, at the age of 84 years. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her children: Terry (Rose), Keith (Janice), Glenda (Robert Frampton), Paul (Donna), Sandra (Carl Emberley), Craig (Amelia), her grandchildren: Tara (Chad), Kayla (Jason), Noelle (Steve), Jodi (Mike), Jordan (Jocelynn), Justin (Danielle), Jessica (Josh), Nicholas (Rochelle), Hilary (Adam), Ashley-Ann (Ryan), Brittany (Josh), Alicia, Brendan, Brandon (Nicole), Andrew, Stephen, Caroline (Sam), Michael (Holly), Nicole (Jon), Steve, Lisa (Jason), Chance, Faith, Cameron (Skye), Paige (Ethan), 25 great grandchildren, her siblings: Jessie Reid, Marie Warren, Saul Upshall (Blanche), Baxter Upshall (Olga), Betty (Harry Smith), Beulah (Wilf Lockyer), sisters in law Dorothy Noel and Hazel Amfaldern as well as a large extended family and many life long friends. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Sam, with whom she shared a beautiful life full of love and adventure, her parents Henry and Hilda Upshall, brothers in law Garfield Warren and Ronald Reid, sisters in law Mary Joseph, Clara Cramm and Lillian Perito. Ernest Rayfield Thorne Jr.
It is with great sadness, the family of Ernest Rayfield Thorne Jr., announce his sudden passing on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Predeceased by his mother Annie, father Rayfield, brothers Eldridge and Lloyd, brother-in-law Dave and sister-in-law Marjorie. Ern is leaving to mourn his partner, Andrea and siblings, Dorcas, Bill, Rhoda (Ted), Eva (Jim), Janet (Wes), Andy (Hilda), Alfreda (Andrew), Levi (Shirlene), Lily (Len) and sister-in-law Lily. Also best friend of many years Alvin (Florence) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ern was a loving, kind and hardworking man. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and greeted everyone with a smile. Ern had a loving way with the smallest of creatures. He loved all animals, the outdoors, trouting, walking and cod jigging. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be announced. It is with deep love and sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Arthur (Wesley) Piercey on April 30, 2025, at the Placentia Health Centre. Wesley was 93 years old and surrounded by care and compassion in his final moments.
Wesley was predeceased by his devoted wife, Alfreda Piercey, his parents Fred and Maggie Piercey, his sister Cecily, his daughter Pansy Bernice, and son-n-laws Maurice Butt and Richard Schappert.
Wesley was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Donna Butt, Margaret Traverse (Chris Traverse), and June Schappert, and his son Matthew Piercey (Carolyn Jones). He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Justin Piercey, Maggie Butt, Matthew Butt, Bradley Schappert, Grant Traverse, Michael Traverse, and Eli Piercey, as well as by his great-grandchildren Kayden, Taylor, Colten and Braxton.
A man of quiet wisdom and immense heart, Wesley found peace and joy in the woods, especially with a fishing rod in hand. He was the kindest man we’ve ever known — gentle, strong, and always present with unwavering love. His absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his legacy will live on in the lives he shaped with patience, humour, and deep care.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Callingwood Downs Retirement Residence, where Dad lived with dignity and comfort for the past six years. We are also deeply grateful to the exceptional team at Placentia Health Centre for their compassionate care and support during his final days.
We would also like to thank all of Dad’s extended family and friends for their ongoing love and support. Your kindness has been a source of strength during this time.

Visitation with Anna’s family will be at Holloways Funeral Home 1-5 & 7-9 Wednesday May 7th. A funeral mass will be held at St Jerome’s church in Long Harbour at 1 pm on Thursday May 8th followed by a tea at the parish hall.

Sarah(Sadie)McCarthy of Bellevue, Trinity Bay July 21 1929-April 15 2025 On April 15 our beautiful, sweet Mom passed peacefully away with family by her side. Predeceased by her loving husband Felix, son Gus, infant son Gerard, parents Michael and Ellen Walsh, her siblings (sisters: Mary, Genevieve and Lena, Brothers: Andy, Tom, Dan and Michael) Leaving to mourn, with deep sorrow, daughters Ellen(Ray), Geraldine(Len) and Bernice (Ron), daughter in law Mary, sons Paul(Cheryl), Raymond(Jackie), Clement, Chris (Roxanne), Felix(Sharon), Sean(Debbie). 23 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Mom was the heart and soul of our family; she loved deeply, smiled often and welcomed all. Mom was an avid cook, quilter, card player and gardener. She had the energy of 100 people; she was happiest with a full house and a large pot on the stove. She had a strong faith, loved helping people and volunteered her time freely. Mom will be missed by her family, friends and the Bellevue community. Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers at the Agnes Pratt Home and the Alderwood Retirement Centre where she was respected and treated like family. George Crane
Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on April 10, 2025, George Crane, of Whitbourne, aged 83. George was a wonderful man who loved to laugh and have fun. He was loved by all who knew him. He was a fisherman for many years and also a volunteer firefighter in Whitbourne. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. George is predeceased by his parents Arthur and Ada Crane, his loving wife Sylvia Crane, sister Phoebe (Harris) Mercer, Gladys (Arch) Lynch, brother Selby Crane and sister in law Betty(Edward) Crane and his daughter Elizabeth Phillips. Leaving to mourn with deep sorrow are his children Ada (Nick) Pollett, Frances (Harold) Norman, Judy (Damien) Ryan, George (Angela) Phillips, Ron (Mary) Phillips and Edgar Phillips. Also leaving to mourn are his 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She passed peacefully away, surrounded by her loving family in the family home in Whitbourne on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 Mom leaves to mourn her 6 children; Richard & (Cathy) Johnson, Patricia & (Lorne) Russell, Theresa & (Jeff) Sloos, Catherine Oke, Mary Johnson, Thomas & (Lisa) Johnson. She also leaves 16 Grand Children, 22 Great Grand Children, and 1 Great great grand Child. Our Mom was predeceased by her Husband of 56 years, Richard Henry Johnson, Grandchildren Tyler & Desiree Johnson and Great Grandchild Paige O’Reilly and also her parents, James & Clara Alexander of Stephenville Crossing and all 13 of her Siblings. Mom was born in Kippens on the west coast of Newfoundland and grew up in Stephenville Crossing. At the age of nineteen, she meet the love of her life, a U.S. serviceman stationed in Stephenville. Mom and Dad moved to Texas in 1952, then to New York and then back to Stephenville Crossing, where the journey began and later finally settling in Whitbourne in 1966. The Johnson home was a place of love, laughter, hugs and warmth. Mom was the Rock, Heart and Soul of our family. The fond memories of countless times gathered where singing and dancing on special occasions was a huge part of our lives. The doors of our home were always open to friends and strangers alike. Mom was always there with a beautiful smile, a warm welcome and a great sense of humor. It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, nan and great grandnan, Rosalind Constance Janes (Murrin). She lost her battle on March 25, 2025 at the age of 78. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Ralph, married for 59 wonderful years. She is leaving to mourn her 4 children, Angela, Ralph Jr (Bo) (Patsy), Michael and David (Cathy). The light of her life, her 6 grandsons, Jordan (Lindsay), Devin (Katelyn), Stephen (Christina), Spencer (Camille), Christopher (Farnaz) and Tyler (Joyce).
